AusReddit: Databank of Reddit posts and comments from Australian-related subreddits
AusReddit is a research databank of Reddit posts and comments from Australian-related subreddits. The goal is to provide academic researchers with easy access to a rich data source that can give rich insights into Australia's societal issues. As of 23 September 2024, the databank contains more than 5 million submissions and 100 million comments from 593 subreddits.
The list of subreddits included in the databank can be viewed at https://ausreddit.digitalobservatory.net.au/subreddits.
A subreddit and all its content are included in the databank if they meet the following criteria:
- The subreddit’s topic explicitly mentions Australia, e.g. r/brisbane, r/queensland, r/australia, r/AusFinance.
- The subreddit is about Australian entities, issues or organisations, e.g. r/AFL, r/NRL, r/InstantHotel.
- Any subreddit known to have a substantial Australian community interacting, i.e. where many discussions about known Australian issues occur.
AusReddit has data from 2005 to the most recent whole month. We run data updates monthly, as soon as the most recent month of data is available.
AusReddit is available to academic researchers across Australia. You will need to provide sufficient information on your research project and an appropriate ethics approval and data management plan. If researchers require access to raw data from AusReddit for their research, ethical clearance per the study's risk level is a requirement.
