Dr Phong Tran

Dr Phong Tran is an Advance Queensland Research Fellow (mid-career level) and Leader of the Interface Science and Materials Engineering Group at the Queensland University of Technology. His group focuses on the development and study of biomaterials for medical devices and tissue repairing or regeneration. His research is highly multidisciplinary and combines fundamental and translational studies at the interface between chemistry, material science, and biology.
Dr Tran has authored more than 85 refereed publications, his articles were published in some of the top journals in his field, including Advanced Drug Delivery Review, Biomaterials, Applied Materials Today, ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces, Biofabrication, Advanced Therapeutics. He has more than 1900 citations and an h-index of 23 (Google scholar 4/2020). Dr Tran has attracted 5.4M in research funding as a Chief Investigator, including 1.4M as a Sole Chief Investigator. He is an Associate Editor in Chief of the International Journal of Nanomedicine.
Dr Tran was the recipient of the Vietnam Education Foundation Fellowship (2005) for his PhD studies at Brown University – one of the 8 Ivy League universities in the USA, Brown University’s Dissertation Fellowship (2009), Stein-Bellet’s Postdoctoral Fellowship (2010, Rhode Island Hospital – USA), McKenzie Research Fellowship (2011, the University of Melbourne – Australia), Vice Chancellor’s Research Fellowship (2015, Queensland University of Technology – Australia) and Advance Queensland Research Fellowship (2017, Queensland Government – Australia). Dr Tran was honoured with multiple recognitions and awards including STAR travel award (Society for Biomaterials, USA), Golden Young Innovator award (Vietnam Fatherland Front, oversea category), Robert Beyer Award (Brown University), Travel Awards (Vietnam Education Foundation), and the Fellowship of the Institution of Engineers Australia.
