Dr Laura Delafresnaye is a polymer chemist with experience in several countries and laboratory environments. In 2010, she did a one-year stint as a junior engineer at the cosmetic R&D pole of the world-wide company BlueStar Silicones (Spain). In 2012, she obtained a double degree in chemical engineering and polymer chemistry. During her master thesis at the Chemistry, Catalysis, Polymers and Processes laboratory (France), Dr Laura Delafresnaye published her first paper and started her academic journey. She continued with a PhD in chemistry at the University Claude Bernard (France) in the field of particle synthesis (2013-2016). Since March 2017, Dr Laura is a full-time researcher within the Soft Matter Materials Laboratory (SMML) at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT). Since 2019, she also took the role of Research Coordinator to the DVCRI within QUT’s Division of Research and Innovation. Her research expertise spans from macromolecular design, particle synthesis, light-induced reactions to chemiluminescence. Throughout industry’s projects, she has developed materials for various applications such as high-performance packaging blister, stormwater retention materials, silicon-based or enzyme-based cosmetic formulations.
