The Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety – Queensland (CARRS-Q) is one of the leading centres in Australia dedicated to research, education and outreach activities in road safety, and is a vital player in the international pursuit of road safety. CARRS-Q exemplifies an approach to shaping and informing public debate that works through long-term partnerships with key government and industry bodies. The Centre was founded by well-known and respected Professor of Psychology Mary Sheehan and is currently headed by Professor Narelle Haworth with a very strong support team of leading academics. CARRS-Q undertakes research into road safety and injury prevention in order to address the enormous human, economic and social costs resulting from road crashes. The Centre has a commitment to achieve real and long-term results by providing research based information to policy makers and the community. CARRS-Q research projects are grouped into the following themes: - Intelligent Transport Systems - Occupational Safety - Regulation and Enforcement - Road Safety Infrastructure - School and Community Injury Prevention - Vulnerable Road Users The Centre is part of the School of Psychology and Counselling in the Faculty of Health at Queensland University of Technology. CARRS-Q is a member of the Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation Domain of the Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation (IHBI) and is based at the Kelvin Grove campus of QUT.
